SpectX presented their X-ray inspection technology at the AIRTuB event: Sensors for damage inspection of wind turbine blades

The Innovation Exchange programme is working alongside Scottish & Southern Electricity Renewables (SSER), the operator the Beatrice and Greater Gabbard offshore wind sites. SSER wishes to engage innovators like SpectX to solve the challenge of automating any of its current non-destructive testing, to remove the need for technicians to work in unsafe environments.
Akhilesh Goveas, founder and CEO of SpectX presented their solution for autonomous Non-Destructive Testing for the inspection of wind turbines and related structures using aerial radiography (synchronised drones that use X-ray imaging to detect defects in internal structures of wind turbine blades and tower structures). This innovative system uses Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning and Machine Learning for predictive maintenance in order to reduce downtime, and operation costs and for rapid detection of defects in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
